Re: HP WirelessMGr Module

I have an HP Pavilion ze5270. After downloading/installing MS XP High Priority Updates, my laptop would boot and get to the Desktop display with no problem. Then, after a minute or so, the white box would pop up stating "HP WirelessMgr Module has encountered a problem and needs to close." So I would hit the "Send Error Report" button. I'm not running a wireless system at home - it's hard wired from the DSL modem and Linksys router., But everytime I turn on the laptop, I'd get the message. Internet access or laptop usage was not stopped, just delayed.
I had an on-line chat on 9/17/05 with an HP Tech support person for about 30 minutes and explained the problem. He resolved it by having me do the following:
Go to Start, then Run. Type in "services.msc". From the Services menu, find the "HP WirelessMgr Module" and double click on it. He had me change the settings from "Automatic" to "Manual". I restarted the computer and no more Error message or delays in booting up. The tech support person didn't say if I would have a problem if I went wireless, but it did resolve the immiediate annoyance. Just thought I'd pass this info on to everyone. Good Luck!

Re: HP WirelessMGr Module

Olivier Cottray ... you say that you don't even get into windows - that it stalls at the Windows XP welcome screen.

I have exactly the same problem (with a Presario 2520AP). So like you, I would love to know how to be able to download and run the SP26144.exe file.

I've tried starting up in Safe Mode, but it stalls at the same point there as well.

Any ideas anyone?

Re: HP WirelessMGr Module

I also have a Presario 2170us that is not making it through the boot process. Using ERD commander I am able to look at the logs and I noticed the HPWirelessMgr.exe program was having problems (they started on 9/21). But I was able to rename that module so that it couldn't start and the error message went away, but the system STILL doesn't make it through the boot process. This is the third time that the system has ended up like this. First time I was able to use the XP install recovery option. The second time I had to restore to factory default and reload all the software and data. So I would really like to find out what the problem is.

And don't suggest softpacks as I can't install them (other than a BIOS update which I did apply)

Re: HP WirelessMGr Module

I had posted earlier (see above) but since that time, I continued to have the long boot-up problems and had to repair my OS install at least 3 times. Each time, it lasted about a month or two before the boot process would fail again. Finally, after most of my .exe files failed to work even for programs like MS Office, I decided to install a clean copy of the OS again. By the way, this was also after I had attempted to install SP-2 which created it's own problems. Once I saved my files and did the new install of the OS and spent about an hour on the phone with MS Support (who actually helped a great deal... surprised??) to download and install SP-2 and necessary updates..... SHAZAMMMM!!! Everything worked fine again, including the wireless module. I even (after working up some nerve) pushed the dreaded wireless button on the front of my laptop and believe it or not... it also works once again!!! The boot process works great and is faster than it has ever been... even faster than when I purchased the laptop new.

My recommendation is to start new... Save all of your files (I actually saved most of mine in a new folder called "My Old Documents" which is not affected with the new install/reinstall. Your original My Documents folder will be overwritten with the new install/reinstall unless you actually creat new user names during the install process.

You will need to reload your programs not included with your install... and hopefully you will see the same results as I did. It's a whole new world... The laptop actually runs like a completely new/different computer.

Good Luck!!

Re: HP WirelessMGr Module

I got THE SOLUTION!

My Notebook didn't boot either and I didn't want to format...

I tried with all the different boot options, I tried with the recovery console by disabling the hpwirelessmgr.exe service and and and...

When you boot up with an XP CD and install XP into the same directory, the setup asks you if you want to repair the installation!

DO IT!!!!

You'll be able to boot again and then you can patch your notebook with following files:

I contacted HP and they said If I can't get into windows then try to
repair it win the Windows XP disc.

I did that and was able to get into windows.

Then they said to go to Administrative Tools in control panel and then
Services. From there you'll find the HPwirelessmgr.exe and you can
disable it by right clicking and choosing properties.

They also said to download the Notebook Utilities and install them.
This might solve the problem without having to disable the
hpwirelessmgr.exe.

I know this is a nasty bug as I had it a year ago and formated my HD
because of it. I hope this helps people. I haven't tried installing the
notbook Utilities but I have disabled the program and rebooting works
fine when it is disabled. I don't have wireless built in and I don't
have an adapter so I don't know what would happen if I did need to get
wireless.

To contact HP use this email address
laptop_support_en@mail.support.hp.com or go to their website and you
will eventually find a way to email them for help (you'll have to give
them parameters about your computer).

Re: HP WirelessMGr Module

For the nx6125, if you can get it to say 'wireless off', right click the same icon that gave the status(looks like an antenna), and turn WLAN on.

Re: HP WirelessMGr Module

Hi everyone,

I've read that you all have the same problem with the HP WirelessMGr Module and the button from the wireless not working properly. I hope most of you have solved it. If not hopefully this will help you, because it did for me.

I have a Compaq presario 2500 and I solved the problem by deinstalling "Notebook Utilities" and deleting the wireless at my device manager. I restarted my pc and the problem was solved. No more HP WirelessMGr Module error and no more blue light.
After that I reinstalled the wireless device with the "HP driver recovery CD" (install only the hardware wireless driver. It's called "LAN-Express 802.11b Wireless LAN Adapter Driver" for my notebook). The "Notebook Utilities" is out of date, so I downloaded another one from the HP site this one: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericSoftwareDownloadIndex?lc=en&cc=us&softwareitem=ob-22771-1&dlc=enтМй=en
I installed it and restarted my notebook. *I've no problems anymore. Yeah!*
I've found another "Notebook Utilities" the earlier version, maybe this one will solve the problem as well. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&os=228&product=390283тМй=en&softwareitem=ob-12743-1

For the ones, who get stuck at start up: You can try disabling the "HP WirelessMgr" through services and see if you can solve the problem after start up (mentioned before).

For the ones, who can't get into windows:
You can see if you can fix your boot by using your windows cd. Start windows with your cd and than press r for repair. You'll get into a DOS-like screen. Wait till it asks which windows you want to view/edit. Fill in the number and press ENTER (usually it's "1" if you don't have any other partition), there will be some questions just reply to them with "y" accept for the administrator password press ENTER after every answer. After that you'll see "C:\Windows\>". Perform a "chkdsk /p" or "chkdsk /r" after that write "fixboot" ENTER "y" ENTER and to go back to windows "exit" ENTER. You'll be able to go into windows now.

If you still can't get into windows:
Use the windows cd to repair your notebook and if that doesn't work I would suggest formating your notebook.

Apart from repairing the problems with the windows cd you can also try "System restore" first. I've heard that it works miracles, especially if you don't remember what you've done before and remember when everything did work.

Good luck everyone and may your notebook be healthy again.
