Installing NT as a second operating system

I recently installed a second hard drive to use for an NT installation as a
second operating system. Autorun.exe from the NT cd seems to want to install
on my C: drive, which is where I currently have Windows 98 installed, and
notifies me that it is "unable to install NT boot loader - ensure that your C:
drive is formatted and not damaged."

Winnt.exe allows me to create 3 floppy disks, but after booting up with the
first disk and feeding the second and third disk, says it cannot find the files
created when createing the 3 setup disks.

Both of my hard-drives are non-partioned 20 gig and FAT32. Doesn't setup
handle the re-formatting to NTFS?

Windows NT doesn't work with FAT 32. The fact that you want to install NT on a
different harddisk doesn't matter, NT will install the boot loader on the
active partition.

The only thing you could do is mart the second harddisk active, format it as
FAT and make it bootable. The trick is to turn off the first harddisk in the
BIOS when you want to boot to NT. I know it's not a pretty solution but it
works.

Unlike Windows 2000 (which accepts FAT32), NT4 requires a FAT16 C: partition
for a multiple boot setup. That doesn't prevent you from running W98 on FAT32,
but W98 will not see NTFS and NT will not see FAT32 partitions without 3rd
party drivers. You will need NT versions of any special HP drivers.

Unfortunately, it seems that W2K installation typically requires temporary
removal of NIC cards from HP boxes.
