Archive Backup System (ABS)

Does ABS software support encryption under VMS 8.2 on Alpha?

Are there other backup software that can drive a tape library and support encryption?

Thanks.

Re: Archive Backup System (ABS)

ABS uses VMS backup and VMS backup supports encryption, so the answer is yes.

There are other backup products that run on VMS and uses VMS backup and so they also support encryption. Another product that you might want to check out is TAPESYS.

Good luck.

Re: Archive Backup System (ABS)

Arun,
Most of the OpenVMS backup utilities will utilize OpenVMS backup utility only. the OpenVMS backup will by default encrypts save set data using the DESCBC algorithm. In OPenVMS the LP product ENCRYPTION component now become part of OS.

OpenVMS support SCSI direct attach tape libraries and tape lib attached under shared hetrogeneous server environment in SAN architecture.
The some of HP storageworks libraries which supports ABS/MDMD backup utlities are .... ESL9xxx, MSL5xxx, MSL6xxx.

You can find more details on this OPenVMS 8.2 SPD
