Availability Manager 2.6 INI file creation failure

Have just installed the Availability Manger 2.6 data collector and analyzer on a small Alpha running 7.3-2. Starting it from the system account, the AvailMan.ini file creation fails. The error message suggests that there could be a disk space or security problem, but there are over 50 M blocks available and I would not expect the System account to have access problems.

Using the JAVA$CHECK_ENVIRONMENT.COM shows no problems.

The output at the terminal is:
$avail/avail
Platform attributes, OS name and version = OpenVMS V7.3-2
Unknown host: _WSA11
Event Dispatch Thread is .. Thread[AWT-EventQueue-0,6,main]
Class of EDT instance is .. java.awt.EventDispatchThread
DataChannel.setupDataChannel - RMDRIVER data: objHandle = 1, objVersion = V1.2, capVersion = 8
$

The Xserver is on Mac OS X, but I don't see how that would affect file creation on VMS.

Is there something obvious I'm missing?

Well, technically, yes and no.

The error message is in a pop-up window:

Unable to create AvailMan Configuration file AvailMan.ini

There maybe a protection or space problem.

Sean,

just a guess: is the disk structure ODS-2 or ODS-5 ?

Re: Availability Manager 2.6 INI file creation failure

Sean,

I've seen this before, but it has been a while, so I don't remember what is wrong. However, you might retry the command after $ SET WATCH FILE/CLASS=MAJOR. This will log each file access, and the return status. The output is rather voluminous, so you might want to log it with $ SET HOST/LOG or similar command. This should tell what is going on. The command to turn logging off is $ SET WATCH FILE/CLASS=NONE.

I'm having a similar error -- I see the same "Unknown host: _WSAxx" -- why is the tool trying to connect to the WS device as a host name??

Master you were right about 1 thing -- the negotiations were SHORT!
