Closed Virtual Circuit

Dear Friends,

We have four MC cluster.Error message showed in all terminals.

%PAA0,port has closed virtual circuit - remote node DIA0.

%PAA0,port has closed virtual circuit - remote node DIA1

%PAA0,port has closed virtual circuit - remote node DIA2

%PAA0,port has closed virtual circuit - remote node DIA3.

Ehat is the cause for this error?and how to troubleshoot it.So far through "show error" command we got.

Device name Device status error count
PAA0: online 81

The error count keep increasing.
We also alreday replaced the HD but still got the error.

Please Help
Thanks

Re: Closed Virtual Circuit

hi,

can you give some detail on the vms versions and hardware (system and disk subsystems) involved here. what has caused you to replace a disk already or are there other previous errors and issues or changes that have occurred ?

Re: Closed Virtual Circuit

We using VMS v6.2

We cahnge the HD cause we suspect the HD are failure.
But we already put all original HD back but the error still occured.

hi,

could you specify the system involved here and the storage hardware and connection type.

Re: Closed Virtual Circuit

I using VAX 4000/105A connected to VAX expension cabinet B4000X.

Got 3 HD inside the 4000/105A and 1 HD inside the B4000X.
Also got 1 unit external Digital Tape Drive
connected to that 4000/105.

Re: Closed Virtual Circuit

Your systems communications services (cluster layer communications) are reporting a low-level communications (usually hardware) error here.

Call your hardware service organization.

They'll probably want a look at the error logs, and a discussion.

Re: Closed Virtual Circuit

Ahmad,

these messages could be caused by errors on the DSSI bus or controller. The name DIA0 to DIA3 are probaly disks (ISEs) with the SCS nodename the same as the disk name.

The DSSI adapter (PAA0) seems to be reporting errors. Look at them using ANAL/ERR.

What is 'four MC cluster' ???

Re: Closed Virtual Circuit

I had thought DSSI devices too and had started to enter that as a response, but then thought "whoops... are those the host names here and not the device names?"

The PA port is SCS/CI stuff, and PI is DSSI, which is why I headed away from DSSI.

But then this is (usually) a hardware error with the cluster port, and we don't have enough detail, and even if and when we do have enough detail we're probably going to end up with a "call hardware service" as the likely response for most triggers here.
