Daylight savings time

With the installation of patches to VMS 7.3-2 to support the new daylight savings time rules, the handling of the time change has been removed from DTSS and is now handled elsewhere in the the O/S.

Does anyone know how to disable daylight savings time in this new scheme?

Re: Daylight savings time

This change-over in implementation happened at V7.3. The core DECnet-Plus DECdts DTSS mechanisms moved into the base operating system at that release. DTSS and NTP remain available for the network timekeeping and synchronization capabilities, but the timezone rules and the switch-over and related were removed into the base operating system.

The automatic switch-over is controlled by the system parameter AUTO_DLIGHT_SAV, and the local application behavior by the selected timezone.

The former controls whether the automatic switch-over occurs, while the latter controls how the applications process local time.

Set AUTO_DLIGHT_SAV to 0, and select a timezone that does not toggle -- various sites have selected UTC as the "local time", for instance.

I've been updating various of those articles based on feedback. Most recently, the zic article was updated yesterday based on some feedback received.
