Decnet Phase IV use network teaming

Just wanted to verify if Decnet Phase IV can use network redundant interfacse (i.e. LLA0, etc). Though the circuit is available in Permanent database, but not there in Volatile database. The LLA0 device is working OK on the Hardware (LANCP) and TCPIP level.

Thanks.

Re: Decnet Phase IV use network teaming

Sanjay,

I believe any protocol can use LAN Failover.

Remember that DECnet Phase IV end nodes can only use one circuit, so if you have it configured on a different circuit, you'll have to clear it and reconfigure on the LLA circuit.

You may also need to get the right sequence for starting various protocols. I'm not sure how the DECnet changes to physical address plays out on LAN failover devices.

Re: Decnet Phase IV use network teaming

I use Decnet Phase IV with network redundant interfaces on 4 VMS 8.2 clusters and everything is working OK.
I also use LAT and TCPIP over the same LLA0 interface and everything works fine.
It should work OK. Do you have any problems?

Re: Decnet Phase IV use network teaming

I had purged all the unwanted devices, still after system reboots the LLA0 was not available in the Volatile database. Anyway customer decided to use Decnet DNS, after installing and configuring Decney OSI, everything is OK now.

Thanks for the responses.

Hi John, long time no see.

Very very well. I've used DECnet phase IV with LAN failover. DECnet just works, open connections will fail over with only about a 5 second hesitation when a cable is pulled. The hardware address stays with the LL device.

Hey Sanjay, nice to see decnet osi in use! v8.2 was the last release that I worked on

Re: Decnet Phase IV use network teaming

DECnet Phase IV reacts badly to multiple links connected on the same LAN due to duplicate MAC addresses, though a DECnet Phase IV routing node is perfectly happy to use multiple links over multiple LANs in parallel. To have multiple paths active, the DECnet Phase IV node must be a routing node. There's a knob down in NCP that can be used and useful here, too; SET (DEFINE) EXECUTOR PATH SPLIT POLICY NORMAL.

Re: Decnet Phase IV use network teaming

Thanks all....I had tested with Decnet Phase V, the failover is quite good. Using on
AXP-VMS 8.3
