I would be grateful if anyone could point me to a link where I could download / print a DFU User Guide or Reference Manual (if such a thing exists)...
Thanks
John

Wow, someone actually intending to read the doc! Cool!
Help not good enough?
What problem are you trying to solve?
Be sure to check the doc, but just ask here if need be.
Cheers,
Hein.

Re: DFU User Guide or Reference manual
Thanks for the link...and yes, HELP would probably be more than good enough for a quick fix. I've always been one of those pack-rats who prefers to have a handy hard copy close by to refer to.
I might swing by later and open a new thread if I can't find everything that I'm looking for. The systems I am looking at have had no defragmetation process applied to them for some time. Diskeeper was in place many years ago, but it was disabled for some isses that arrose from it's use with Oracle (before my time here.. cannot expand on it). In a nut shell, I'm just trying to see what I can do to reduce fragmentation and all the nasty things that seem to happen as a result of it.

Re: DFU User Guide or Reference manual
pls. note that DFU (being a VERY useful tool) is no defragmenter. It can defragment single files. The 'real' defragmenter from HP is called DFO (Disk File Optimizer) and its license is called DFG.

Re: DFU User Guide or Reference manual
I like the simple 'DFU> report
and DFU> SEARC/FRAG=MINI=100
And, fwiw... I always run with $DEFI DFU$NOSMG yes.

Re: DFU User Guide or Reference manual
Even after running a single pass on a couple of disks, the health of those disks appears to have improved substantially.
Just taking one volume as an example, the figures show dramatic changes from before -
File fragmentation index : 0.504 (excellent)
Free space fragmentation index : 0.258 (excellent)
I will obviously look at DFO as well
