How about BACKUP system with BASEstar.

we have BASEstar on VAX
and backup system at interval.

when it occur some trouble( can not read point value), we restore system.

some case(70%) operate normally,
but other case (30%) not.

I guess now that we should shutdown BASEstar
for backup system completly.

do you know how to backup BASEstar system
completly?

Re: How about BACKUP system with BASEstar.

I am unfamiliar with BASEstar but typically to get a complete and consistant backup then some application co-operation is required. The simplest is to shutdown the application then you know nothing is being updated on the disk to be backed up. If you can get the application to stop updating the disk then that may also be a way forward.

Re: How about BACKUP system with BASEstar.

Basestar has many files open in BCC$SPECIFIC, so I assume, a valid backup would require a Basestar Shutdown (using BSTAR STOP SYSTEM).

Pls. note that there is a command EXTRACT, which allows replication of all Basestar definitions. This may be of some help in case of desasters.

Perhaps you should also try to find out, why you have trouble in Basestar itself from time to time.
