HP FMS for OpenVMS installation error

When installing HP FMS for OpenVMS we are getting the following error. Has anyone out there ever encountered this?
%VMSINSTAL-W-NOFILE, New file FDVSHR_TV.EXE does not exist.
%DCL-W-UNDSYM, undefined symbol - check validity and spelling
\SAVE_STATUS\
%VMSINSTAL-E-INSFAIL, The installation of FMSFDV V2.5 has failed.

Re: HP FMS for OpenVMS installation error

Michelle,

First, is your system an Alpha or a VAX. In either event, are you sure that your installation kit has not been corrupted. Hint: take a look at the contents of the files in the installation kit. If you get any odd messages from BACKUP, the kit is corrupted.

A VMSINSTAL kit consists of a series of BACKUP Save Sets with names corresponding to the name of the Product, with suffixes of .A, .B, .C, etc. Each one can be examined with the BACKUP/LIST command separately to determine which files are contained in which save set.

On occasion, I have had to take apart a distribution kit by hand. It does not often happen, but it can be done. I would find it unusual that a kit could make it through QA with a missing file. More likely, the kit got damaged at some point.

Michelle,

The kit is missing files and has some bad logic in it, something about IA64 ;-). Watch for an ECO kit in the near future.

Re: HP FMS for OpenVMS installation error

I just installed succesfully the FDFMS025 kit on both Alpha running VMS V7.3-2 and Integrity running VMS V8.2.

Since the FDFMS kit as well as HPFMS kit are VMSinstal style kits and also in this particular
case the kits are architecture specific, make sure you are using right kit.

I see in my collection

I am not aware of FMS/FDFMS V2.5 kits for VAX at all though I have not checked latest condists.

Re: HP FMS for OpenVMS installation error

Veli,

Our Alpha kit was probably copied from the lastest con dist. Our kit's savesets are the same size as yours, except for "B".

Re: HP FMS for OpenVMS installation error

What is the kit you were actually installing?

I mean
...
%VMSINSTAL-E-INSFAIL, The installation of FMSFDV V2.5 has failed.

suggests that you were installing FMSFDV025 kit
which I think is a FMS runtime kit.

Whereas HPFMS025 stuff is the full version aka
development kit. And the error message should have been much rather

%VMSINSTAL-E-INSFAIL, The installation of HPFMS V2.5 has failed.

Re: HP FMS for OpenVMS installation error

We're having the same problem on OpenVMS Alpha.
Both with the installation savesets which came of the june SPL kit and from SPL site.

Where can we find the right kit for OpenVMS Alpha.

Re: HP FMS for OpenVMS installation error

Hi,

AXP_FMSFDVECO1-V25 addresses your problem.

Downloadable through ITRC (alpha, 8.2).

Or:

ftp://ftp.itrc.hp.com/openvms_patches/alpha/V8.2/AXP_FMSFDVECO1-V25.ZIP

ftp://ftp.itrc.hp.com/openvms_patches/alpha/V8.2/AXP_FMSFDVECO1-V25.TXT

Re: HP FMS for OpenVMS installation error

ftp://ftp.itrc.hp.com/openvms_patches/alpha/V8.2/AXP_FMSFDVECO1-V25.TXT

This link is incorrect. Should be:

ftp://ftp.itrc.hp.com/openvms_patches/alpha/V8.2/AXP_FMSFDVECO1-V25.txt

As an VMS specialist I did not check for case-sensitivity :) after I changed .ZIP in .TXT...

Re: HP FMS for OpenVMS installation error

I forgot to mention, our installation failed in OpenVMS V7.3-2.
Is there a kit for OpenVMS V7.3-2 available

Re: HP FMS for OpenVMS installation error

Hi,

This HP FMS V2.5 Alpha Runtime-Kit
ECO1 kit is equal to the failing 2.5 kit with the addition of FDVSHR_TV.EXE and FDVSHR.IIF.

Supported on VMS 7.3-2 and 8.2.

Michelle,

from your Forum Profile:

I have assigned points to 0 of 15 responses to my questions.

Maybe you can find some time to do some assigning?

Mind, I do NOT say you necessarily need to give lots of points. It is fully up to _YOU_ to decide how many. If you consider an answer is not deserving any points, you can also assign 0 ( = zero ) points, and then that answer will no longer be counted as unassigned.
Consider, that every poster took at least the trouble of posting for you!

To easily find your streams with unassigned points, click your own name somewhere.
This will bring up your profile.
Near the bottom of that page, under the caption â My Question(s)â you will find â questions or topics with unassigned points â Clicking that will give all, and only, your questions that still have unassigned postings.

Thanks on behalf of your Forum colleagues.

PS. â nothing personal in this. I try to post it to everyone with this kind of assignment ratio in this forum. If you have received a posting like this before â please do not take offence â none is intended!

Proost.

Have one on me.
