IBM SNA DEMSA dump error log question

Greetings to all ...

We recently had a power outage in our building and tried to initialize my SNA box with the sys$common:[sna$csv]snaini.com command procedure on our Micro VAX 4000-200. This procedure has worked for years with out a problem.

However, this time the SNA box is generating
a dump file in the sys$common:[sna$csv] directory as SNA1.DMP.

The SNA display (upper right hand side) displays several numbers "3", then "1',
then "4" then "5".

I've also attached the SNA1.DMP text file.

Any suggestions?

"Section 9.3 LED Display" is of particular interest in learning the current status of the DEMSA hardware box.

The DMP file you are getting can only be analyzed by special tools which HP has internally. The DMP file is not in any format which the OpenVMS RMS file analyzer can understand. There is a description of the dump file format in "Appendix F" of the manual.

More often than not, the problem ends up being that the unit is just not getting its load file from the OpenVMS system. It uses the MOP protocol for this purpose. MOP activities are often seen in the DECnet event logs (OPCOM messages usually).

Is your load host a phase IV or phase V node?

Which SNA software are you loading -- the Phase IV Gateway-ST or the Phase V variant (if there is one -- I know there was a Phase V variant of the X.25Router-2000 software).

In any event, before you worry about the SNA side of the configuration, you need to verify that the MOP load is taking place.

We are loading Phase IV Gateway-ST.

OK .. Any suggestions on how we can accomplish this? I cannot seem to find
that topic in my manuals.

First, I'd enable OPCOM on the expected MOP load host(s) and see what, if any, messages appear when you power on the DEMSA.

Assuming you get "good" messages", you can try to connect to the DEMSA via NCP (set exec node xxxxxx) and see if DECnet is happy, even if SNA isn't.
