Inappropriate alerts from HP

Why do I get HP-UX alerts from HP? Here's one example I just got today:

======================
HP Technology At Work alerts
Your source for HP drivers, firmware, patches, security bulletins
and support
----------------------------------------------------------------------

HPSBUX02108 SSRT061133 rev.1 - HP-UX running Sendmail, Remote Execution of Arbitrary Code (c00629555)
Critical
HP 9000 Mid-range Fast Solutions,HP 9000 Servers,HP-UX Operating Environments,Integrity BL Server Blades,Integrity Entry-level Servers,Integrity High-end Servers,Integrity Mid-range Servers
not applicable
Mar 23 2006
======================

I am NOT subscribed to HP-UX. I am subscribed to several Alpha platforms, OpenVMS issues, and one Itanium platform -- but ever since signing up for the Itanium stuff, I've been getting these nonsense HP-UX alerts.

I've sent in feedback before, and only got a form letter back -- "sorry you're experiencing difficulty". Big whoop -- I'm more sorry!

Does anyone here have any idea why HP would be sending HP-UX alerts to OpenVMS users? Any ideas on who to contact to get this FIXED? I don't want to be off the Itanium alerts -- I want the RIGHT alerts!

TIA,
Aaron

You most likely signed up for HP passort which you can select/deselect products and servers you have. Try logging in this website and adjust the products you want alerts for.

Re: Inappropriate alerts from HP

Nope, like I said, I'm deliberately subscribed to a variety of AlphaServers, Itanium Servers, and OpenVMS. I've checked multiple times and via multiple methods and logins to verify that there is NOTHING to do with HP-UX in my subscription profile.

The only thing that changed is that I added RX2600 Itanium servers to my list of hardware.

It appears from this that HP has made the presumption that anyone running Itanium equates to "HP-UX on Itanium", and that misconception (or, for the less P.C., OS bigotry) needs to be rectified.

10 points to the wizard who can direct me to someone who can make the necessary changes in the subscription list keywords!

I also get messages about Windows security problems as well as unix.

Have you emailed itrc_support at hp ?

I have much the same problem - I don't seem to get unwanted messages, but neither do I get all the ones I am subscribed for.

See this thread

for some further info. Good luck in getting it sorted ... let us know if you succeed ...

Re: Inappropriate alerts from HP

No, because the ITRC is not the source of the messages -- they come from "My HP Portal". The only contact option there is "Feedback to SMB webmaster", which I *have* sent mail to. And from which I got a form letter back...

If you follow the "contact HP information page" link on the above page, you get reams of possible contacts, but none of them appear to be applicable to the HP Portal email subscriptions.

There are no X- headers in the emails, either, that would offer any kind of email address that queries could be sent to.

Overall, I'd rank the implementation rather shoddy. Good service on the face of it, but poorly supported and inflexible.

Re: Inappropriate alerts from HP

Aaron,

THere is another thread where OpenVMS people are not getting alerts for OpenVMS. If OpenVMS people are getting HP-UX alerts then are HP-UX people getting OpenVMS alerts?

:)

All I know is that ITRC is far below the capability and relibility of DSNlink

Re: Inappropriate alerts from HP

I am the HP program manager for this alerts service and first want to apologize for the receipt of the misaligned emails. Our intention with this service is to only send alerts that are relevant to the profile you setup. Bottom line, is we believe we resolved the issue and you should no longer receive any support alerts that are not relevant to the products and OpenVMS selections in your profile. If you have future questions or concerns please direct them to the feedback team hpfeedback.bulletins@hp.com (or reply to the alerts emails) and it will be routed for investigation and resolution.

Huzzah! Thanks, Kip! And a special thanks for the email address for feedback. Can that address be included in the body of future bulletins?

And thanks to whoever pointed Kip to this thread!
