Itanium Shutdown

Is it possible to add a clear screen command somewhere after issuing the Shutdown command from a terminal window in Motif.
I understand it is currently not possible to drop to the console prompt on a VGA terminal as on the Alpha but some indication is required.
Our customers are reporting hangups when shutting down!
