Microsoft Certification for a VMS Pro

I asked on the XP channel (left out references to VMS) and received no responses.

Obviously, I've been loyal to VMS for many years. More and more of our tools are PC/VMS based and some recommend microsoft certification. Other's require PC problem solving.

While obviously we all have learned a great deal about these boxes, I want to go the other nine yards, and and would appreciate recommendations that prepares one for certification?

There are a host of programs one can load that have simulations and tools. Does anyone have a recommendation. Personally, I learn easily when a concept is first presented, rather than simply a bunch of steps.

Thanks in advance.

IMHO a MSCE and $3 will get you a cup of coffee - they are a droid factory, and you are beating your head against thousands of others. I would consider a slightly more focused certification, SNIA storage certification, or a CCIE, or the like.

I'm sorry, but what are those accroynms.
I just want to get it going. Mostly to diagnose issues between vms and clients.

And it's just part of a journey, not an end all.

Can you rell me about what you wrote?

MCSE - Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer

SNIA - Storage Networking Industry Association

CCIE - Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert

MCSE is a rather complex thing. If you like to diagnose client problems, you might start with a training and certification for Windows XP.

Re: Microsoft Certification for a VMS Pro

Certifications are valuable for my prospective customers who don't know anything technical. It gives them a box to check -- and, hopefully, eliminate my competitors that don't have the certification.

The downside is that they can be expensive -- especially if you need to attend a training class to pass the test.

But, if you pass just one test (any one at all), you can claim that you are a Microsoft Certified Professional.

To get the whole MSCE, there's a whole bunch of tests. And there's a different set for Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003. And once Longhorn (the next Windows) is out, there will be ANOTHER set of tests.

Once a version of Windows is past support, all certifications are cancelled unless you take a "transition" test(s).

Good luck in any case!

Re: Microsoft Certification for a VMS Pro

What hoping for is a recommendation of a product I can download. There are lots out there and most of them I'm sure are junk.

And yes, I would like to know how to manage a uSoft network, and their are software packages that claim to have the simulations.

I'm also interested in solving issues when the tools that work between PCs and VMS don't work.

Thanks.
