I used the command $mount/system/noassist dna0:
The command gives the error "media is offline"
What is the issue here ?
The CD is working fine in other OS.

Re: Mounting CD in VMS
It might look stupid but did you put a CD in the drive?
If so, try to mount it privately, like
$ mount/over=id dna0:
and post the results.
And...
> The CD is working fine in other OS.
What other OS? VMS has quite a different view on volumes that "other OSes".

Re: Mounting CD in VMS
The CD is working in Windows and Linux.
The server is RX3660.
The CD is properly placed in the CD Drive.

MOUNT /NOASSIST might have been easier.
DNA0 sounds to me like a USB device. Support
for these is relatively new. Are your VMS
patches current? What is this drive,
exactly? Is it a model supported by VMS?
SHOW DEVICE /FULL DNA0
> The CD is working fine in other OS.
Do you mean the disc itself or the drive?
> %MOUNT-I-OPRQST, medium is offline
So VMS is unhappy. Could be hardware or
software.

Re: Mounting CD in VMS
sh dev dna0:/full
as has been pointed out before in this forum cd/dvd support can be a little flaky.

Re: Mounting CD in VMS
Since one of the earlier posts in this thread mentioned that this is a CD-RW, please make sure that the CD has been closed.
Some packages (particularly on Windows platforms) permit CDs to be used before they have been closed.

Re: Mounting CD in VMS
****NEVER**** assume CD nor DVD compatibility.
Stop pounding your head against a wall. If you're tried this a few times and it doesn't work, try something else.
Your DVD drive is incompatible, or the OpenVMS USB drivers are broken. Either (or both) are possible here.
Use a different drive.
Use different media.
Use the virtual DVD stuff and/or use InfoServer.
Use a memory stick. (Scrounging up information on FAT readers and FAT tools as needed, and particularly if you're swapping between OpenVMS and Windows.)
Use another drive, and copy in the disk, and swap the drive brick.
Again: ****NEVER**** assume CD nor DVD compatibility.
Just because it works on one platform does NOT mean the drive will work on any other.
And the IDE to USB adapters ("bridges") that are used on various of the USB drives are as much a problem area as the IDE ATAPI drives themselves.
If you're not current on your UPDATE patches and any USB/DN patches for OpenVMS I64 V8.3, start there. If this is an HP drive in an HP supported configuration, call HP. Otherwise (and if you're current on patches), try another drive or another approach.
