Obtaining install media

Hello all,

I recently acquired an AlphaServer 4100, and would like to put OpenVMS on it. I registered with HP for the "Educational License Program", since the system would be used by a computer hobbyist group at my college. It's a little unclear to me, however, where an installer could be downloaded from, or how to obtain installation CD's. The program at openvmshobbyist.com requires DECUS membership, which I don't have. What do I need to do to obtain installation media?

Thanks!

Re: Obtaining install media

Ian,

Welcome to the OpenVMS forum.

DECUS is now Encompass, see http://www.encompassus.org/ and http://www.encompassus.org/membership/benefits.cfm for more details. You can become an Associate Member at no cost which will meet the Hobbbyist requirements. You can also sign up your college hobbyist for
Encompass membership.

Once you're a legitmate hobbyist, you can either purchase the hobbyist distribution or borrow media from local sources. If you're anywhere near San Diego I can loan media and would be willing to provide some startup assistance.

Re: Obtaining install media

If you sign up under the OpenVMS Hobbyist license you are allowed to borrow installation media. I'm not sure if the same is true for the Educational License Program. If you need media a good place to ask is on the comp.os.vms newsgroup. Just state what platform you have (VAX/Alpha/IA64) and your general geographical location and you should get at least one answer. Some HP people monitor the newsgroup so you may even get a response from one of the many VMS Ambassadors about.
