ORACLE Comparison

To all,

Please excuse this newbie question into the OpenVMS world, but does anyone have some good comparison data on putting multiple (5)instances of ORACLE on a GS-1280 compared to either a GS320 or GS160?

We are looking at migrating from an older GS140 to a new environment, as yet to be determined, and would like to hear from the wisdom of this group...

TIA,

Re: ORACLE Comparison

The GS320 (and GS160) have relatively pronounced numa attributes (3x more latency when going remote, 3x less throughput),
This stops emory intesive applications like oracle from using the full CPU potential.

The GS1280 is still a numa machine, but the numa effect if more gradual and starts at a much better place. The worst lantency in a 32P GS1280 is better than the local latency on a GS160.

If your application was happy on a GS320 then great.

If you are coming from an GS140, then go directly to GS1280. Do not stop at the GS160 and be happy.

Re: ORACLE Comparison

Chuck,
I understand that your question is directly related to comparision between running Oracle on GS-1280 vs GS320 or GS160.

The following is a thread on a question i had posed in this forum on a different subject but involving Oracle and VMS.
