Pathworks sending Messenger Service notification concerning logon time ending
I am running VMS 5.5-2 with LanManager 5.0F
A Windows 2000 Client will receive messages on their PC monitor every 5 minutes with title bar of "Messenger Service". The message in the window reads:
Message from {SERVER} to {PC NAME}on MM/DD/YYYY hh:mm:ss.hh
Your logon time at {SERVER} ended at 17:00.
The window includes an "OK" button.
If the user forgets to logout in the afternoon, he/she will have (12*15) or 180 message boxes on their monitor by 8AM the next morning to which they must click "OK".
This has happened to several Win 2000 users, two of which have no restrictions whatsoever either under VAX/VMS or LanManger....i.e., they have 24 hour access available to them.
By the way, none of the users have restrictions under LanManager, so they can access the "network" 24x7. All but 3 or 4 have restricted access under VAX/VMS for only certain hours under their primary days and no access under secondary days.
A restricted user also received the message, but the VAX/VMS restriction time does not coincide with the time listed in the message. E.G., the message says the logon time ended at 17:00, but the user's restriction is 8PM (20:00).
The users who receive these messages must logoff to have the messages cease coming, even though at the time that they see the message is the day AFTER the logoff should have occurred and they are now back within the 8AM-to-8PM allowable timeframe.
My question(s) would then be:
What causes the messages to appear in the first place?
How can I get them to stop?
Ooooooh! I just noticed the ability for attachments. I screen-captured the message and put it into a Word document. I'll include it for you.

Re: Pathworks sending Messenger Service notification concerning logon time ending
Pathworks V5.0F is quite old and compatibility with Windows2000 and higher is not ensured.
May be you can disable the alerter on the Pathworks server or may be an upgrade is an option to at least Pathworks 6.0D or 6.1?

Re: Pathworks sending Messenger Service notification concerning logon time ending
you do need a eco kit for PWRK V5.0F to work with W2K.
I've not seen that particular message before however.

Re: Pathworks sending Messenger Service notification concerning logon time ending
Larry,
I guess different times due by differente timezone.
For my experience you could receive messages on PC also with more recent version of pathwork. I observed them with Advanced Server V6.0 and windows xp but I never eliminate them (my messages are occasionally).
You could stop alerter service in admin environment, but I'm not sure this work.
