Pathworks Share not always available
However, Pathworks does not provide a continuously available share. Has anyone else experienced the same issue and how did you resolve the problem?

Re: Pathworks Share not always available
We have 30 licences, so use 80 for the capacity and 8192 for the cache.
Even still, we have lots of problems connecting to the cluster alias and managing the shares with Server Manager.
No-one has ever been able to give me an answer as to why it's unstable!

Re: Pathworks Share not always available
You need to tell us more about "does not provide a continuously available share".
Does that mean clients can not connect? If so, what happens when they try to connect?
Does that mean that clients lose thier connection? Again, tell us the details.
Tell us about error messages, and the events leading up to the error messages or failures.
Also, is this a new installation, or an upgrade? Did this configuration ever work correctly for you?

Re: Pathworks Share not always available
You say "No-one has ever been able to give me an answer as to why it's unstable!"
But, I don't see you asking in this forum?
To the best of my knowledge, once you have Advanced Server configured correctly it is pretty stable. Perhaps you should start a new thread explaining your configuration and the problems you see and maybe we can help you through your difficulties too! (But, you should probably do it in a new thread we don't confuse your problems with Simon's)

Re: Pathworks Share not always available
I've had conversations with the European A/S group, but we never got to the bottom of some of our problems.
For instance, when I load the Licence Manager and configure it, sometimes it can pick up a licence straight away, and sometimes you have to log in as a different user, reboot, then log in as yourself before it will pick one up.
Also, the Cluster Alias works for a while, but then stops responding, so we decided not to use it.
We get various errors, such as 'invalid credentials', 'access denied' and 'session limit reached'.
Having said that, 7.3A is much more stable than 7.2, so I don't spend half the time dealing with A/S problems.
BTW, can anyone tell me what sort of transfer speed you get with A/S. I'm using a 'quiet' ES40 and can only get 2MB per minute. I suspect that we have an IP problem though, because FTP is equally as bad.

Re: Pathworks Share not always available
I habe just copied the 66 MByte OOO V1.1.1 kit to and from our VMS system:
- writing is about 1.6MB/second
- reading is about 3.8MB/second
(it is an old AS 1000A)
so there really seems to be a general problem at your site.

Re: Pathworks Share not always available
I think I have to agree with Karl, and like you we ARE on ES40 (and ES45 for that matter). We are always in the Mbyte/second range.
