Re: Printer Queue Limitation

I've managed systems with many hundreds of printer queues - not a problem.

Why are you asking? What's the problem?

Re: Printer Queue Limitation

Telnetsym : 1 symbiont = 32 queues.
I ran against "no PCB" after 1793 queues on my workstation.

Re: Printer Queue Limitation

Heinz,

I assume, the limit lies in maximum number of devices used, e.g. LTA... or TNA... and not in the queue system itself.

Re: Printer Queue Limitation

I created 10.000 unstarted telnetsym q's on my AS500 without problems.

But :
sh que/by=retain now takes 3 cpu secs.

Deleting error entries using dcl lexicals takes 30 seconds.

Re: Printer Queue Limitation

Hi

thanks a lot for your fast responses.

I have been asked by one of our application developpers if there is a limitation for the maximum number of printer queues on OpenVMS. They plan to introduce much more printers for a application than we currently have.

I don't know a limitation, but I was not sure. That's the reason, why I asked you.

So I think there is not realy a limitation and our developpers can do what they like to do.

Thanks a lot
