Example topics:
Keeping in SYNC SQL Server database with VMS files

Change Data capture with RMS on OpenVMS
http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1248444
Connx has long since offered a potential solution there: http://www.connx.com/products/pdf/DataSyncSpecSheet.pdf
Attunity is now offering Real Time CDC.
Insert ($PUT), Update or delete a record in a file declared of interest and the change magically replicates in a totally different database on a different box. Cobol, Basic, C, Datatrieve, DCL; Sequential, Relative or Indexed, it can and will all be captured if so desired.
Why do this?
- That other 'target database' (Oracle? SQLserver? ...) might be more suitable to present the data (web) or report on the data than then original RMS files.
- Target new developments against a future database even before the application is there.
Tomorrow 18-October-2010 there will be a Webinar explaining this
technology,
It should be interesting for anyone involved with applications storing
data in RMS files (indexed or not) and having a desire to provide
access to that data outside OpenVMS applications.
It is rather neat to see it work!
Below the announcement that Bill Pedersen has send out, slightly munged to inline web-addresses.
See you there?
Hein.

Connect Worldwide is hosting two seminars on Tueday, 19 October, for
Attunity, one of the 2010 Connect OpenVMS Boot Camp sponsors. You can
find out more about the specific webinars here:
Europe Afternoon: / US Morning : http://www.connect-community.org/events/event_details.asp?id=128591
Europe Evening: / US Afternoon: http://www.connect-community.org/events/event_details.asp?id=128592
We will be recording these sessions and they will be available on the
Connect website for those who can not attend the live events.
The technology being discussed is Attunity Stream for RMS and a
specific implementation Attunity RMS-CDC for SQL Server Integration
Services. A case study of implementation at Southeastern Freight
Lines will be presented.
Several well respected members of the OpenVMS Community will be
present during this event for a panel discussion. They include:
John Apps, HP OpenVMS Ambassador/Consultant
Hein van den Heuvel, HvdH Performance Consulting
Brian Schenkenberger, Sr. VMS Software Specialist at TMESIS
SOFTWARE
We look forward to seeing you at one of these two seminars.

Re: Real Time RMS Change Data Capture ( CDC)
Thanks for the announcment here. I didn't make it to the bootcamp this year, so I missed the presentations there.
Where is the best place to ask questions about this product? I have thought of more questions since the webinar :-)
There doesn't seem to be any activity in http://www.attunity.com/forums/attunity-rms-cdc-ssis/
Is "Attunity RMS-CDC for SSIS" a subset, superset or something different than "Attunity Stream for RMS"?

Re: Real Time RMS Change Data Capture ( CDC)
You were missed.
Jon>>> Where is the best place to ask questions about this product?
You could use the ITRC. I can alert the right folks if I not comfortable answerring myself.
Or you can just Email the vendor directly, notably Richard (dot) Thomas at Attunity...
Jon>> I have thought of more questions since the webinar :-)
Folks expect no less :-)
Jon>> There doesn't seem to be any activity in http://www.attunity.com/forums/attunity-rms-cdc-ssis/
This is a new offering.
Go ahead, be the first!
Jon>> Is "Attunity RMS-CDC for SSIS" a subset, superset or something different than "Attunity Stream for RMS"?
Superset. It adds a sleek integration tool to get an easy ETL into a SQLserver database.
Streams is the (long existing) core.
The new RMS-Logger is the enabling OpenVMS technology.
Thanks,
Hein.
