Strange sounds when running eXcursion

Recently my Windows XP system began emitting strange sounds whenever (apparently) eXcursion's X server does anything. X window updates are also noticeably slower than they once were.

For example, when I open a DECterm window there are a lot of strange sounds while the window is being created, after which there's another sound every time the cursor blinks.

If I run something like ico, it makes a constant stream of sounds.

Even something as simple as "xset q" to display some of the X server's settings, produces a string of noises--even though it doesn't create a window.

This doesn't apparently have anything to do with eXcursion's own sound capabilities, as I have those turned off.

The eXcursion control panel itself runs noise-free.

Reinstalling eXcursion had no effect.

I am running eXcursion V7.3.188. My client applications are all running on OpenVMS V7.3-2 with DECwindows V1.3-1

Re: Strange sounds when running eXcursion

Hi Galen,

Disable the MAESTRO from Network monitors. You will get this when you click the left mouse button on x-cursion server. This will stop your strange sound.

HTH,
Thanks & regards,
Lokesh

Score 10 for Lokesh!

It was Maestro all right. I didn't even know such a thing existed. Perhaps it was a glitch in the preferences file or whatever.

Turning off Maestro took care of the strange "music." Is that why they called it Maestro, I wonder?
