Found this messages several times in audit_server_error.log on many systems (nothing to do with my other audit problem).

AUDIT_SERVER itself does not use this error message directly, so it must have gotten this error calling some system service, which has returned SS$_IVBUFLEN. There are about 56 different places in the [SYS] facility source code, which return SS$_IVBUFLEN

$ HELP/MESS IVBUFLEN is not very educating in this context.

Are there any more messages preceeding or following this error in AUDIT_SEVER_ERROR.LOG ? Any timestamps, which may be compared to OPERATOR.LOG events ?

date and time of AUDIT_SERVER_ERROR.LOG ?

This file does not normally exist, so the creation/modification date may at least show, when the error has happenend.

Nice Volker.

File is created and revised in 2004. The system is up e.g. 80 days. Guess it was a problem back then.
