VMS Partitions

Hi,

I want to know what does VMS offer in terms of managing partitions of a single system (ES80)when they are working in a cluster. Is there any single mamangement console like GSP in HPUX and HMC in IBM systems. This is basically for daya to day operations in case of reboot of just one of the partition which is also in cluster.

Cheers,
iman

See the OpenVMS Alpha Partitioning and Galaxy Guide,
http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/732FINAL/aa-rezqe-te/aa-rezqe-te.HTMl for information information about the HP Graphical Configuration Manager (GCM).

If you don't have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over? Reach me at first_name + "." + last_name at sysmanager net

Re: VMS Partitions

Hello Iman,

Is the ES80 partitioned itself, or do you have multiple ES80s, each of which is one partition?

For managing the partitioning of a system then the FGalaxy and partitioning guide is what you need.

For centralising the consoles of many systems there are other useful techniques, depending how far you want to go with aggregating the output and looking for errors.

Many people still use DECservers (terminal servers) to gain access to the serial consoles over a network link. Some more recent machines (eg: ES47) have built-in serial consoles accessible over a network link.

Software packages such as Cockpit Manager and Itheon's iAM:Consoles can be useful too. In a high-availability environment then you might find it useful to discuss things with HP's world-wide DTCS group based in Bristol in the UK.

Cheers, Colin (also in Bristol, UK).
