XA DDTM Gateway status
Oracle Rdb engineers and support staff inform me that XA needs a fix for it to support Oracle 10g and Oracle Rdb in a distributed transaction with two phase commit. What's the status on that ? (Alpha OpenVMS 8.2 and Rdb 7.2 and SQL/Services 7.2)

Re: XA DDTM Gateway status
"Who have I asked in HP?" No one. Rdb Support has asked for me, using their contacts. I'm hoping that someone in the know monitors this forum and can provide an answer.

Re: XA DDTM Gateway status
TAR update from Oracle
19-OCT-05 16:39:54 GMT
UPDATE:
========
Ken,
Engineering responded with the following:
Before v7.1.6, OCI services only supported 2pc with 1 rdb database. One of the oracle da
tabases would coordinate the transaction, and it would prepare all the non-rdb d
atabases and then do a commit to the rdb database. As far as she knows, it didn'
t matter if constraints were deferred or immediate. OCI services implemented thi
s partial 2pc by using the ORA_COMM_TRANS table to keep track of active transact
ions. The problem with locks on that table was fixed in v7.1.5.4.
v7.1.6 supports full 2pc with more than 1 rdb database and any number of oracle databases. R
ight now, the XA gateway that we use to provide this functionality does not work
; we are working with HP to get it fixed. It is believed that once that fix fro
m HP is available, all
should work with sql/services v7.1.6 immediately (ie, no changes to sql/services will be necessary).
As far as she knows, for either flavor of 2pc, it doesn't matter if constraints are deferred or immediate.
In addition, the engineer working on the XA gateway piece said the following regard
ing the fix from HP:
I have emailed VMS management at HP about VMS update releases that has the DDTM Gateway bug fixes for the V73-2, V8.2, and V8.2-1 releases
. I am awaiting their reply. However, we can advise to Ken to contact their HP
representative for VMS and ask for the most recent "Remedial Update Kit" for the
versions of VMS Intracorp is using. The DDTM Gateway fixes Ken needed should b
e in that kit.
We hope this helps.
