Re: Does Tru64 provide the soft raid function?
True64 provide LSM (Logical Storage Manager), and it supports UFS , AdvFS ..
It supports RAID 0 , 1 , 0+1 , and RAID 5.
Check this out for a good understanding :

Re: Does Tru64 provide the soft raid function?
using LSM without some form of RAID is like having a car without transmission ;-). Only a source for trouble but no use.

Re: Does Tru64 provide the soft raid function?
What problem are you trying to solve?
Hardware controllers are very capable raid-5 managers. Why bother the OS with that menial task? Why turn a single system IO into 4 (read data, read checksum, write data, write checksum).
Now if you are talking raid-1, more commonly referred to as mirroring, then that is a whole different problem nicely solved with LSM plexes. There software/OS level raid-1 give the big advantage of potentially using multiple distint, redundant, paths.
hth,
Hein.
