printer troubleshooting

Im using UNIX tru64 in
Personal Workstation 600au. and i configer printer Model LN17ps using (printconfig) command, and used it as adefult printer.
but when i try to print the printer dosn't work.
when i type (lpstat) command the following message appear (waiting for lp0 to become ready (offline?)).
i dont know why..?
i think the problem with parallel port or some things else..
how can i check that the port is work fine..?
and give suggestion please ...!! thanks
