Secure Web Server

Hi,

I tried to install the Secure Web Server on a Tru64 Unix V5.1 system.

After the installation, when I tried to access the Administration on port 8081 on the browser,
I get the following error.

Forbidden
You don't have permission to access / on this server.
Apache/1.3.19 Server at Port 8081

Did I miss out something?

Thanks and Regards,
Ronny

Re: Secure Web Server

Hi Ronny,

have you installed the version from Internet Express? If so, have you configured the Secure Webserver by the Web-Gui or manually?

I'm asking because 99% of the problems depend on the manual editing of the files (which are also not recommended and supported). If using the Webgui (Internet Express Administration) works without a problem.

The above error message is typically for a configuration problem within httpd.conf

Re: Secure Web Server

Hi Ralf,

Thank you for the response.

I installed it from the Associated Products CD.
I did a setld after mounting the CD.

After that, I did not do anyhting and tried to access the admin web by using port 8081 on the browser.

Ronny

Re: Secure Web Server

Associated product cd? I'm still wondering that this software is on the named cd.

Ok without the rest of the Internet Express CD it is very difficult to configure and check the proper installation.

If the delivered version is the "open source" version nothing is installed within httpd.conf. So you must first configure it properly - without it doesn't work out of the box.

Re: Secure Web Server

Hi Ralf,

I have downloaded the V6.1 from the web and installed it in my system.

I modified the httpd.conf and now I am able to access the web administration.

Below is the portion modified in httpd.conf,

# Controls who can get stuff from this server.
#
Order deny,allow
Deny from none
Allow from all

Thank you for the advise to check on the httpd.conf.

Regards,
Ronny

Re: Secure Web Server

Hi Ralf and Ronny,

After the installation, when I tried to access the Administration on port 8081 on the browser,
I get the following error.

Forbidden

Apache/1.3.26 Server at Port 8081

( All other things are working means examples pages are coming )

i have done changes what Ronny have suggested (in http.conf in apche )

Re: Secure Web Server

The error means:

This is caused by not having a home page file inside of your www directory. Once you upload your homepage file into this directory, the error message will go away and your new home page will load. Our servers recognize a number of file names as home pages: the most common ones are index.html and index.htm. httpd.conf specifies the location of the starting home path.

Another possiblity is, that you specified the http url without a "/" at the end (the internet explorer add this "/" automatically) or you have entered incorrect pathes within the setup leading to a problem finding the admin port (because the admin pages are out of range). Study your httpd.conf and verify proper configuration.
