I don't have a great deal of experience here.. but I'll make comment
typically this may be an expensive ordeal as you will have to pay for the egress costs.. Of course this will depend on the quantity of data..
If it's a VM on VMWare AWS it's not really too difficulty but you'd need to have the 2 VC's in link mode. In this case assuming there is sufficient band width and low enough latency you could even (maybe) hot migrate to the same version VMWare infrastructure in your OnPrem environment
