thin disk provision

Hello Everyone,

I currently have a virtual machine (VM) with a 1.3TB thin disk, but I'm only utilizing 500GB of it. Is it possible to modify the disk to decrease its size to at least 700GB? This would enable me to free up some storage space and create a new VM.

Thanks in advance.

Re: thin disk provision

Hi jgorospe,

The procedure of reducing a virtual disk size consists of two steps:
1) Shrink the partition inside the guest OS. Please note, you can reduce only upto free space size, otherwise OS may crash.
2) Reduce the size of the VMDK file of the VMWare virtual machine on the VMFS (NFS) datastore.
You can do it using this link and link2.  It is better to take back up of the vm before doing it.
