8100 CD-WRITER DOS Driver Problem

If I try to boot from a Win98SE emergency startup disk it hangs when loading the OAKTECHNOLOGIES MSCDEX driver, no message it just locks up.

The 8100 works perfectly in Windows.

I checked the ASPI layer, found it corrupted, repaired it, created a new startup disk but still same result.

I have tried 2 different 8100 drives and the same thing happens !!!!BUT!!!! I changed to a differ brand CD (but this time it was only a CDR NOT a CDRW) and it worked perfectly!!!

I'm stumped,,,, Please advise

Which software did you use to burn the recovery disks?

The Emergency Startup "floppy" disk was just written by the standard Win98SE feature accessed through the Settings / Control Panel / Add Remove Programs.

It all "should" work OK 8-

You need to go to: http://www.hp.com/cgi-bin/cposupport/swindex.pl?p=hpcd-write9675&l=en&c=MSDOS and download the DOS driver. There are no instructions on what to do next but it is a start.
