CD-Writer 7200i Write Problems

I've had my 7200i writer for 18 months now and had no problems at all with it
until recently.

Whilst using Easy CD Creator and writing to CDR's I receive the following
errors:-

T0100: I/O error (05/26/00) - Command error - invalid field in parameter list
T0100: I/O error (05/26/00) - Command error - invalid field in parameter list
T7118: TrackWriter error - Command retry failed
D0100: I/O error (03/02/F2) - CD recorder error - cannot seek to the requested
location

I have re-installed the software and this had made no difference whatsoever!

If I try and use Direct CD to read / write to CDRW it seems to write for ages
and then lock up and will not let me eject the disk?

Anyone had similar problems. Is it that the writer is dirty.

The drive reads data ok though!!

Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: CD-Writer 7200i Write Problems

yes, same problem has occured on my 7200i.

I ran the diagnostics and get ASPI errors as well.

I can still create DCDs but forget creating any CDs. I get buffer underrun
errors at 2x and 1x record. Doesnt matter if I create from drive or CD. I have
also removed all caches.. nothing will correct this error.

Re: CD-Writer 7200i Write Problems

I have a 7200i in a hybrid system with 128m RAM, 350 AMD processor and an IBM
DeskStar 13.2g hard drive. I always get buffer underrun errors when I try to
make audio cd's. I've tried adjusting my Vcache under system.ini file and that
didn't help. I wish HP would step up and give us some help. IF Hewlett-Packard
still stands for quality then they should look at this forum and give us some
assistance.
In the meantime if anyone has experienced this and fixed it please let me know.
THanks

Re: CD-Writer 7200i Write Problems

I thought I was crazy because this happened to me with absolutely no changes to
my system. All of a sudden, after 9 or 10 months of working perfectly with CDR
CDRW, both reading and recording, it stopped recording music CDs. I can still
read and create data CDs but I've not gotten past Track 1 creating a music CD
in the last 3 weeks.

Does anybody know how we could go about getting some assistance from HP with
this issue? I can't find my receipt right now but I'm still searching. Is
there a recall on this model?

Re: CD-Writer 7200i Write Problems

I too started receiving buffer overrun problems after about 6 months. I
recorded music externally and then copied the audio files to the cd with no
problem. Then it just quit working. I defraged, scandisked, ran virus checks,
tried making it a master, slowing the speed and then the drive did not eject.
They sent me a new drive that was produced 3 months after the previous drive.
I uninstalled the all the previous software, then reinstalled the enclosed
software and all the patches after 3.01. I still get buffer over-runs. I have
96MB RAM and 2 4GB drives and an 8x cdrom at 120 MHZ. Not the lastest, but
certainly not the oldest. HP please make this right.....

Re: CD-Writer 7200i Write Problems

I have a 9100 Series writer and I am getting the same error when making a copy
of a CD. I do not see a tread from HP. Hopefully they'll have some answers. I
have only had the system for about 4-5 months.

Re: CD-Writer 7200i Write Problems

Hi,

I have the same problems with my hp 9100. It worked perfectly for a few months and now I can't copy anymore cd's. The errors I get are the same T0100 and T7728. Sometimes the test works ok and then it fails when copying resulting in a wasted disk. I even had problems with copying data. The copying works fine in that case but the data on the disk seems to be unreachable.
I've checked other forums and this seems to be a regular plague amongst cd-writers. Suggestions go from cleaning the lens to making sure nothing is running and that all DMA's are shut off. I have two remarks on that point. 1 It doesn't seem to work either and 2 even if it did, this is no decent way of working with the PC. Imagine you have to change your bios , shut down everything else (including things as the screensaver) everytime you want to use that cd-writer. Best thing to do, get that thing back to the shop and get a new one, thats what I plan to do anyway.

I also have the same problem, after 18 months of perfect burning. I guess it's the life expectancy for all HP burners.

Re: CD-Writer 7200i Write Problems

I too just had my HP 7200i CD Writer die on me after 18 monthes. Are these things timebombed to die ?

I just wasted 10 CD's thinking I must have did something wrong. It's obviously a defective product.

T0100: I/O error (05/26/00) - Command error - invalid field in parameter list
T0100: I/O error (05/26/00) - Command error - invalid field in parameter list

D0100: I/O error (03/02/F2) - CD recorder error - cannot seek to the requested

Re: CD-Writer 7200i Write Problems

I had the same problem happen to me after 18 months. I returned it to where I bought it and luckily I have a friend working there who just gave me a new one. This one works fine although it hasnt been 18 months yet...
We'll see whether I hate-mail HP then or not...

Re: CD-Writer 7200i Write Problems

Quite disgusted with my 7200i. Worked great at first, but after about the same time (20 months) it started the same thing you all described. Buffer underruns and coasters at any speed even when copying to HD first. On a celeron 550 with 128MB I think the machine is fast enough. It originally worked fine on a PII 48MB machine.

I will buy Yamaha drives from now on.

Re: CD-Writer 7200i Write Problems

I'm also having very similar problems with my 7200i. This was a unit that was reluctantly sent out by HP Support in Feb/2000 to replace the original one I bought which failed after about 9 months of light use. All in all, I'm not impressed with either the service I received or the product.

The errors I get when using easy CD creator are:
T7303: TrackWriter error - Undefined or invalid parameter
T7303: TrackWriter error - Undefined or invalid parameter
T7118: TrackWriter error - Command retry failed
D0100: I/O error (05/64/09) - sense code 0x64
D0100: I/O error (05/2C/00) - Command error - commands not issued in sequence

Strangely enough, the drive reads CDR CD's fine, and will even burn a R/W CD. It fails on the Performance test of the HP Diagnose Utility and returns ASPI errors. I've tried running a CD Cleaner disc through it but this doesn't help. I'm thinking that the drive is toast as I've tried it in another PC and it does exactly the same thing. If anyone else has any ideas on what's causing this or how it can be fixed, I'd appreciate it.

Re: CD-Writer 7200i Write Problems

EVERYONE IS HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEMS!

My 7200i has just died after 24 months of light use. A friend had his 15 month old unit replaced after persistant complaints to technical department. I don't hold out much hope for a replacement for my old unit.

120,000 hours MTBF. Ha! Ha! Ha!

Buy a RICOH, cheaper and better.

Re: CD-Writer 7200i Write Problems

It seems:

(1) Many people have the same problem
(2) HP doesn't care

My 7200i "buffer underrun" problems also started suddenly after about 20 months. I have done everything possible to resolve this (including HP's recommendations) The only thing I have not done yet is trash the damn thing and get something that works!

Re: CD-Writer 7200i Write Problems

I have given up, it is knackered.....HP replied to my email and I then spoke to them, apparently the RW and W actions are done at different frequencies/angles of laser? So my W bit is dead.

I just bought a replacement Ricoh RW/W and incorporated DVD player all for ?156 (inclusive of VAT) Bargain as I wanted a DVD player.

Re: CD-Writer 7200i Write Problems

Don't forget that CD writers, CD roms and DVD
players are all OPTICAL devices. Some of the the problems you are having I also had (7200i vintage 98),before you do anything serious like reloading sofware etc., BUY A CLEANING CD (the one with the little brushes on it).
Then try again. If you have no luck after that, have a look at the "continual errors - every time" thread in this forum, and look at the entry from Peter Mullen Oct 12 2000.

Re: CD-Writer 7200i Write Problems

It was while browsing in this area and hearing so many reports of these problems that I realised that the last time my 7200i came right was when they "couldn't find anything wrong with it, but just cleaned the optics"; I read a post suggesting that one uses a CD lens cleaner and it's worked brilliantly ever since - even though it isn't recommended. Seeing my SECOND replacement machine is out of its warranty I thought there was nothing to lose as I was ready to throw it away. Hope this helps.

Re: CD-Writer 7200i Write Problems

I am going to add my 9150i to this long list of defects....I have only had mine for two months....I have wasted more cd's than I have successfully recorded....I cannot record an audio disc with any success (never could). I thought It was something I was doing wrong until I read this forum...I am getting the same error messages and having the same problems....I have from the very start....I think it is ashame that HP won't stand behind their product....They must not have much faith in it either....I was an avid HP fan because of results with my HP printer....But since I've gotten this RW CD-ROM and especially since reading all of these messages I have lost faith in HP....I am very dissappointed in them....I won't be able to go out and replace my product....I don't know what I will do....But I do know I will never recommend HP to anyone again.....

Re: CD-Writer 7200i Write Problems

I got the same problems with my 7200i, the fact is that it took me a lot more time to find that my burner is scrap. Now im out of warranty of any sort, and it's like buying a cdrom drive at 300$, bleh

The new error that my burner got is now,
""CLOSE CD" Command unrecognized"
cause i used to lost, like 20 blanks cd because of underrun error, now im getting a new error, bleh
