HP CDRW software incompatable with IDE controller

HP software does not support windows 2000 where an SiS 5513 IDE is in used. I have tried both the 9140i with software provided and the 7200i with the software provided from HP disc "part # C4492-60027 SURESTORE 7200I" plus ?ecdc_405_up.exe? from the Roxio website. The 7200i works fine on the same system (ie SiS 5513 IDE) when running windows 98 version 2 and also when running windows millenium. How can I make my HP CD writers work on this system with windows 2000?

Some of the error messages include: (1) with HO 7200i and related software - cannot copy: files on this CD ROM drive are read only....., Easy CD creator engine initialisation failed...., Please insert disc into drive G,..., Device is reserved by other processes. (0x8000001a). You will not be able to read and write to the disc through drive letter access. HP 9140i - Please insert a disc into drive G..., the disc in drive G cannot be formatted....

These problems occur with both CDR and CDRW media.

The device reads fine. The problem is with writing.b The system does not seem to recognise it as a writer.

The CDRW has been connected in series with my CDR (secondary slave), on it's own - secondary master - although I do not know how to change the IDE configuration - perhaps you can advise on this also? (ie CDR uninstalled, and in series with the hard disc (secondary slave).

SIS should be a problem with the Writers on Win2000, make sure you the latest IDE drivers updated from SIS.

There is new software for the 7200i for Win2000, it might produce the same problem because the other Writer is having difficulties burning. You will find 2 software downloads at the following URL, download them.

Re: HP CDRW software incompatable with IDE controller

I have owned the 9150i CDRW for the past year. When I first loaded the Included software Win 2K would totally whipe all the installed CD's from the system. This is caused by the driver for the 9100 series being incompatable with NON-HP versions of W2K. Also watch the EZ-Creator software version number. Versions below 4.02 are incompatable with W2K and these troubles are well documented.
However, It is fair to note that the new software that HP has released for the 9100 series burner is FANTASTIC!! They have resolved all the issues with the 9100 series and W2K! A simple search on this site will lead you to the burner software, I strongly suggest any one with the 9100 or 9500 series CDRW's, running Win 2K download it, save it and install it! It Rocks!
