Juke Box Accessing Issue

Hi everyone,
We have purchased Juke Box with 32 slots and 2 drives. I belong to a financial sector the basic purpose for purchasing juke box was for archiving and retrieving of archives. We actually scan various documents and saved them to Juke Box. Now problem we are having is that if we are working with multiple Opticals in Juke Box with only 2 drives accessible at a time then how do we automate the access of other Opticals placed in various slots.
If we need to access them by manually placing various Opticals from Slots to drives then i our plan for fasten retrival process through juke box will be failed.
Kindly, help me out in this regard as I have to submit technical report and evaluation on short notice.
Thanx

Re: Juke Box Accessing Issue

I'm going to make some assumptions, to please correct me if I get this wrong.

You're archiving files manually to optical disk, right?
You're mounting a disk, archiving files to that disk, then unloading?
Then you want to somehow have that disk loaded automatically when you want to look at the archived data?

You won't be able to do it without buying some software to sit in between. AFAIK, HP-UX doesn't have the ability to be able to auto-load exchangeable media based on a given filename.

I'm afraid you'll need some new software in between HP-UX and the jukebox. Have a look at QStar (www.qstar.com).

Their product uses a virtual filesystem, and takes care of file placement on optical media for you. When you go to look at your (archived) file, it will automatically load the relevant disk.

There are probably other vendors on the market that provide the same funtionality - I just happen to have worked with this one in particular and found it quite good.

Re: Juke Box Accessing Issue

Hi Colin,
Thanks for the tip. I went on qstar website and post my requirement to their support department. But I havnt found any reply from them I dont know whether my question creates ambiguities to them or not. I am mailing you my question kindly suggest me whether it is possible or not.

"My Juke Box is of Model 300mx jukebox,2 drives having 32 slots and 2
drives.
We are in a process of building a
software for archiving and retrieval of our physical documents. All
documents will be first scanned and then stored in Juke Box. When Juke
Box installed on our server 2 drives shown with 4 GB size each. Basically
these 2 drives are the mapping of Juke Box drives. Now we just copies
scanned images in proper folders already made on drives. Now i need that
if size of drives filled then automatically other drives from slot come
into drive slots. And when we try to retrieve those documents it
automatically brings the appropriate drive in drive slot.
"
Your prompt reply will be highly appreciated.
Thanks
