Supporter recorders help

When trying to burn a CD, I get the following error message:
"There are no known supporter recorders available. Make sure that your recorder is powered on and that all cables are properly connected.
Also, make sure the latest version of the software is installed to ensure you have the latest drivers."
I have uninstalled and reinstalled, but that did not help. I contacted Roxio and couldn't figure out how to do what they suggested, basially I felt like I was going around in circles. Hope somebody can help me because even I bought and installed a new program, I don't think it would work without the proper recorders.
