PCM Basic Questions

Hi folks,

I'm dabbling with HP PCM. My main reason for doing this is to identify which switches could be bottlenecks in our network.

I have 3 basic questions:

1. I've managed to bring in all our switches and have figured out how to view traffic utilisation by port. Is there a way to view this in summary by switch, rather than by port?

Other than the Devices > Traffic tab, is there a better place for monitoring overall traffic by switch? i.e. am I looking in the wrong place?

2. Also, in the network map I'm not seeing any of my switches linked together. Should this automatically happen? I can't see a way of connecting them up manually.

3. Is there a recommended course for learning PCM? Does it have any pre-requisites?

TIA

Re: PCM Basic Questions

2.  PCM will automatically draw links between switches if it can get enough information, generally LLDP MIB info.  If you are not getting links between HPN devices, I recommend you see the 'Troubleshooting Discovery' section of the PCM Administrator's Guide, in the chapter 'Discovering Devices'.

3. Here is a link to the latest PCM training that I am aware of:

http://h20507.www2.hp.com/Saba/loginAsUser.jsp?deepLinkName=CourseDetail&deepLinkParams=courseId=00393363

You will need to use an HP Passport login to access this web page.

Note that this is not comprehensive training on all PCM features.
