Proliant Support Pack

Here's the situation:

I have 8 BL25p (Gen1) servers that comprise our Citrix farm. I use Remote Deployment pack, because it is so simple to take an image of a server, then place that image back on identical hardware.

The problem is that since the latest version, HP says that you must first uninstall the Proliant Support pack before imaging, and then reinstall once it's completed. I am in the middle of updating these servers, and uninstalled all the HP utilities. Now, when I attempt to install the PSP (using 8.20, which is the current version supported by these servers, according to HP support site), every install of the components fails.

I've tried running the bpxxxxxx.cmd from the command line, and also running the components indvidually. I've tried with domain admin as well as local admin rights, and still nothing. I tried running hp Smart Update Manager, and that cannot even discover what components are necessary. Here's a typical Windows Event Error message:

Faulting application System Management Homepage-cp010495.exe, version 3.0.1.73, faulting module System Management Homepage-cp010495.exe, version 3.0.1.73, fault address 0x000056bd.

Any ideas?

Lee, I'm having the same issues. I notice this hasn't a reply from others and wondered if you found a method that fixes this issue.

Re: Proliant Support Pack

After working with HP for about a week on this, we tried wiping the machine, and running the PSP, and it worked. I went back to an earlier version of an image, ran a repair on Windows Server 2003, and it found errors in certain dll's. I allowed it to repair, and now the PSP installs required components successfully. I haven't tried using the Smart Update Manager, but I assume it will probably work.

Enjoy!

Re: Proliant Support Pack

Lee, I think our server is having the same problem. Did you run the Windows Server 2003 Repair process that is accessed by booting from the CD, or did you run the System File Checker (SFC) utility from within Windows ?

Re: Proliant Support Pack

I used the 2003 CD to repair the installation.
