Adding a E5-2620v2 as a second processor to a server with E5-2620

I have a HP ProLiant DL380p Gen8 Rack Server System with an Intel Xeon E5-2620 CPU and I would like to know if it's possible to add a E5-2620v2 as a second processor (not replacing the first). Support was very pleasant and tried their best but I don't think they knew the answer either.

Re: Adding a E5-2620v2 as a second processor to a server with E5-2620

Hi,

Physically its possible to seat the v2 processor in the second slot because both uses FCLGA2011 socket but the server will not work with two different types of processors.

Both the processors must and should be of same configuration.

Here are some major differences between both the models:

E5-2620
Clock Speed 2 GHz
Lithography 32 nm
Max TDP    95 W
VID Voltage Range 0.60V-1.35V

E5-2620 v2
Clock Speed 2.1 GHz
Lithography 22 nm
Max TDP    80 W
VID Voltage Range 0.65–1.30V

Thank You!
