Cache Module Status (failed)
Hello,
It seems that we have a degraded storage alert.
Specifically:
Controller on System BoardController Status OK
Serial Number **Confidential Info erased** Model HP Smart Array P420i Controller Firmware Version 4.68
Cache Module Status Failed
Cache Module Serial Number **Confidential info erased**Cache Module Memory 524288 KB
----------
Any ideas if this is a hardware error or not?
Thanks
Alex

Re: Cache Module Status (failed)
Here's more information.
On the log it seems that it happened yesterday after that power supply input failure.
We migrated to another rack yesterday, so the server was turned off and installed to a new rack. Power seems redundant

Re: Cache Module Status (failed)
Hello,
We logged in to Inteliggent Provision and saw the actual error message.
The message was reporting that the capacitor/battery is beeing charged. But it has been more than 30 hours now that we see the cache module failure.
Could this mean a bad capacitor?
Could somebody from HP please reply?
Thanks
Alex

Re: Cache Module Status (failed)
Did you ever get an answer on this?
I saw the same events. FIrst it looked like a power supply issue.
Remove and replace the same PS and error switches to "cache module status failed"
If I replace the module does it affect the current raid configuration?

Re: Cache Module Status (failed)
I have the same issue on a 8.00 firmware Smart Array P420i Controller. What was HPs answer for this?

Re: Cache Module Status (failed)
We currently have this same issue. After contacting HP support and sending the logs to them they said that the Smart Array battery has failed. They shipped us a new one and it will be installed tomorrow and hopefully resolving this issue. From what I could understand from the HP technician the cache is not used when the battery fails. I was informed that the server would be functioning at a lower speed due to this fact. I am currently running the up-to-date firmware for this device. I was informed that this doesn't affect the raid configuration. After I replace the battery and know more I will post on here to make sure everyone is aware of what happens.

Re: Cache Module Status (failed)
Replacing the cache battery fixed the problem for us. All error messages went away shorty after booting the system up with the new battery.

Re: Cache Module Status (failed)
Hi there!
For those who have the same problem (in our case it was exactly after the 5 year warranty expired).
The module for the P420i has the part number: 660093-001 (you will also see an image). There are some misleading infos on the net. Also something about degraded RAID-sets. If you have no power failure the battery could be installed without any struggle. But the best option would be to power off the server, change the battery and watch the bootup-sequence for errors.
regards

Re: Cache Module Status (failed)
Were you ever able to pin point the issue and resolve? I have the same failed component.

Re: Cache Module Status (failed)
Hi @Cookies04 , did you replaced the cache module or the battery only? I have to change the Cache Memory Module (PN: 633543-001) AND the Battery (PN: 660093-001). Would this process reset the RAID configuration?
