Re: HP Version Control Agent

I have an open case with HP for problems related to PS 8.00A. There seems to be way too many people having problems with it. I recommend deploying 7.91 until the next release of PSP is out. 8.00A seems to be a problem child and should be skipped!

Re: HP Version Control Agent

Hi,

I fixed my problem by installing first the previous version of the agent
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=428936&prodNameId=3288114&swEnvOID=1005&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=MTX-7481b133ab484907873bc5d017
cp007999.exe
then the cp008277.exe
those does not request any reboot.

hope this can help

Re: HP Version Control Agent

Hi Guys,

Now I also ran into the problem where the Version Control Agent would refuse to install properly. (DL360 G3)
I tried removing all HP support pack components and found the VCA would not go.
Tried manually removing using a HP advisory, no good either.
Tried version 791, would not install either.

So a trick from my home pc days was the last thing I was going to try before starting again.

Installed YourUninstaller2008 (shareware) and had it clean up the references to the stuck VCA, and VOILA! it was gone and ver 8 installed right away.

After the reboot it was all back to normal.

Hope it helps.

Re: HP Version Control Agent

I'm fed-up with psp 8.0a. On about 40% of my servers that have had 8.0a "successfully" installed, the VCA fails to open unless it is a fresh install. This is even after I've uninstalled and reinstalled it. It seems that every time that I want to open the SMH on a server (connected via RDC), I have to re-install the vca. I've started leaving a copy of cp008277.exe on every server so that I can reinstall it.

Are you listening, HP?

Re: HP Version Control Agent

This worked for me:

Stop or kill any starting/running vcagent process or installation.

Delete the service with 'sc delete cpqvcagent'

Delete the folder 'C:\hp\hpsmh\data\cgi-bin\vcagent'

Copy the cp008277.exe locally
Run the exe and extract
Browse to extracted location and run cpqsetup.exe

Hope it help

Re: HP Version Control Agent

I had this same issue with the PSP 8.0. on servers that didn't get PSP 7.91.
You have to go to the software download page for your server and download the 7.91 version of VCA and then after that installs successfully apply the 8.0 version of VCA. Luckily this can all be done without rebooting.

Re: HP Version Control Agent

Worked a treat on the windows 2000 servers we are still running but I still have the problem with the 2003 servers.

I now have quite a few VCA's that have stopped and will not start again (they report a configuration error) If I delete the sevice and then the VCA folder I still cannot get the agent to install. Old versions or the latest. I have tried PSP SUM copy the exe's to the local machine etc etc etc. Ant help on this would be appreciated.

Re: HP Version Control Agent

This worked on a server that had windows installed over the top of itself. Good information David.

Re: HP Version Control Agent

This fix worked for me also on W2K3. No VC Agent in Add/Remove Programs but trying to force installation of latest (or any for that matter) version just threw up errors.

I started a new post last night before I found this one so have closed my own one and posted the solution in there too.

David,
Your solution seems to be working for me on all w2k3 servers tested so far. Thanks!
