Problem installing Windows 2000 advance server on Netserver LH 3
I have a PIII, 600MHz LH 3 Netserver with 70 G HD and 654971KB of RAM. I configured this server with Netserver Navigator CD v. L.15.10a of RAid 5. I am having problem to install the Windows 2000 advance server with message of hard drive imcompitible with the windows 2000.
What should I do to resolve this problem?

Re: Problem installing Windows 2000 advance server on Netserver LH 3
I'll have to check my documentation, but I don't believe Win2000 will support booting from a Raid 5. I have installed on an LH3 with raid 0(striped)with a 10gb logical drive and it worked fine. You don't say how many drives you have, but if you have raid 5 you probably have at least 3. I would create a raid 0 logical drive and install the OS on that and then create a raid 5 logical drive with the rest for your data files. Depending on the number of physical drives you have, you might want to create a mirrored drive for the OS and then raid 5 for the data files. This would give you redundency for the OS and then raid 5 protection for your data.
I hope this helps you.

John

Re: Problem installing Windows 2000 advance server on Netserver LH 3
Hi Tracy
Windows 2000 advanced server (or other Windows 2000 server editions) should boot fine from RAID 5 arrays. Just make sure you install the needed RAID controller driver in the beginning of the setup process of Windows 2000. You have to press F6 right after the blue setup screen appears. After a few loaded drivers Setup will ask for a driver disc in a:\ . The disc can be created with the drivers provided from the hp download site. http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/CoreRedirect.jsp?targetPage=ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software2/COL3575/ns-12640-1/drv_win2000_269_1_en.exe
Also make sure you have the latest bios and firmware.

HoC

Re: Problem installing Windows 2000 advance server on Netserver LH 3
Hi,
This installation, is it to a hardware RAID5 on the integrated NetRAID controller? Windows will install to any hardware RAID. Windows doesn't know it is on a hardware RAID, all it sees is one big drive.
My advice would be to try and install using the Windows 2000 CD and use the drivers diskette for your server. You can download the Integrated netRAID driver (Rev 2.69) here: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?locale=en_US&pnameOID=15389&taskId=135&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=50448&submit.y=5&submit.x=8〈=en&cc=us&swEnvOID=227
I believ that the problem you are having is because of the navigator CD. The naviagtor CD's are all out dated and contain files that should no longer be used.
One other consideration: Sometimes if the hard drives you are using are not HP, you can get problems such as this. If you do have non-HP drives and the above method doesn't help you, try installing a HP drive and see if it makes a difference.
