initial discovery

Hi all,

I need to have an anwser to the following question!! I have just installed IM7 SP2 server in our environment. When I look at discovery settings there is a inclusion IP range, which needs to be set.

I don't need this setting because I don't want to see every machine in the subnet. For this reason I will be using a hosts file to manual discover the devices I want, but IM 7 still has the devices initially discovered in his database.

2 questions?
1. Does the management server need to have a subnet, because i'm unable to remove the first subnet from the settings page?
2. How can I delete devices from the database.

Thanks
Remco

Re: initial discovery

"I have just installed IM7 SP2..."

...please be aware that IM7 is now end of life and its replacement, HP Systems Insight Manager is already available. Current version 4.1 is downloadable free and contains an IM7 migration facility.

In IM7 if you uncheck "Execute automatic discovery every..." then discovery won't run regardless of the subnet information in the box.

Deleting devices--highlight the device and press [del] or choose delete from the actions pull-down.

Re: initial discovery

You should be able to remove the sub net and replace it with $ so that it only auto discovers devices in that file.

Depending on why you only want a short list you may find it better to turn auto discovery off totaly as has been sugested or add an exclusion range / host file to block out the addresses you don't want discovered. Another option could be to make CIM only look for Servers when discovering but let it run over the whole range. All a bit depends on what you do / don't want and the make up of your ranges!
