Insight manager & Linux 7.3

Hi,

I am utterly confused trying to follow the HP/Compaq website trying to understand if and then how to deploy insight manager on Linux 7.3. Any pointers/advice/how to's would be great!

Many thanks in advance

Re: Insight manager & Linux 7.3

Okay, what are you trying to do?

Do you have the HP version of Linux running on some kind of HP Server?
If so, that should have the HP Management Agents. You can browse directly to these agents (https://server:2381).

Do you have a number of these Servers? If so then could could look at installing the new HPSIM to monitor these Servers. I've never installed the Linux based HPSIM before.

A quick note, this is the CIM 7 forum, CIM 7 is being replaced by HP System Insight Manager (SIM or HPSIM) which is in a different forum. CIM 7 has no Linux version.

Re: Insight manager & Linux 7.3

I am trying to install Insight Manager on box running RH Linux 7.3. Sorry for my ignorance but I know nothing about this product. The hardware is a proliant DL 380.

I will post in the other forum too, but will check back here if you can offer any advice.

Re: Insight manager & Linux 7.3

Matt:

Your post in the other forum was a little more specific in naming that you want information on installing the agents.

First off, the ProLiant Support Pack (downloadable from http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/locate/86_4706.html) is designed to take the guesswork out of things and install in the right order with all the right dependencies.

Secondly, http://www.hp.com/linux --> products --> Proliant will take you to a page that is a tresure trove of information, including HOWTOs, etc.

Last, keep in mind that as RH is discontinuing the "Professional" versions and moving everyone to RHEL, we will not be doing further development to support RHP versions.

Re: Insight manager & Linux 7.3

Thanks for that.

OK then, I downloaded the following http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/13332.html

from a link off of the first link you provided; and installed it on a windows box on the same network as my Linux box. Maybe i'm getting a little confused here, I was expecting just to download an rpm, install it on the linux box and confgure a trap receiver to listen for snmp traps from it. I take it that's NOT how this is suppoesed to work then?

Cheers for the other link, i'll take a look.

Re: Insight manager & Linux 7.3

Go back to the first link in my message and get the ProLiant Support Pack. The PSP is a collection of all of the dependencies required to operate the system and make it manageable. It is not a single RPM but a collection of RPMs.

The link you cite is for the IM7 application, NOT for the agents it needs to talk to on the Linux box.
