Insight Manager Java applett?
I am trying to run compaq insight manager 7 2.1 on my pc through internet explorer connecting to another server.
It loads most of the page but unfortunatley not the applett in the middle. Is this a Java applett? What do i need to run this?
I have got the microsoft java installed on my ie6.0 and also sun jave, i have tried them both disabled and enabled and it still shows a small red x in the top left hand corner of the applett.
Am i missing some software?
Thanks
Gary

Re: Insight Manager Java applett?
Try removing all JRE's and then relogging onto IM, it will load the appropriate JRE.
Don't check the box for a particular browser. And check in Internet Options / Advanced that the "Use Java 1.xxx" is NOT checked. This means the application will use the JRE it requires rather than the Browser running a default JRE.

Re: Insight Manager Java applett?
When you start up IM7 in your browser, if it doesn't find the version of Java that it wants it will automatically initiate an install. With the symptom described above, there is something else going on if you are able to progress into the GUI and then get a red x.
To troubleshoot, set your security to Low and uninstall any and all versions of Java you may have. When you restart your system and attempt to connect to IM7, you must complete the installation of Java that it offers. Follow Rob's instructions about unchecking things and in the future you should be able to host multiple different versions of Java needed for different apps.

Re: Insight Manager Java applett?
...and before a flame war is started, it's not our fault! Java is designed this way. In addition, changes between versions of Java have had the tendency to break applications designed under previous versions. Please note this is very common--not that Microsoft is always the best example of how to do things "right," but code changes were required in many applications crafted using the various Visual lanugages (Visual Basic, Visual C++, etc) to work with the updated runtimes supplied with Visual Studio .NET.
