Web Agents Password

In a previous lifetime we configured our servers with the Web Agents disabled. Now a global change has occured and we can start enabling them again. The problem with this is when the older legacy servers were set up the webagents passwords was often overlooked and we now do not know the passwords for alot of our WebAgents.

Is there a way (apsrt from logging into the agent) and resetting the password.

Thanks

Phil.

Re: Web Agents Password

Phil,
I was going back over forum questions and saw where you had no response.
If this is still relevant then here goes:

If your web agents are version 5.20 or earlier then the default password for administrator is: administrator

If you try that password and it doesn't work, then from one of the servers that you can log in to the web agent, take it's cpqhmmd.acl file from the c:\compaq\wbem directory and copy it to the server(s) that you don't know the password for. Restart the Foundation agent on that target server and try logging in again.

There is no default password for v5.30 agents or higher. So if they were installed without a default password then the above .acl file will fix the problem.
Hope this helped.

Re: Web Agents Password

I have used this method of restoring a password before and it has always worked. I now have a server that I have tried this on and it is not working. It was recently configured (by someone else)using smart start 7.3 and they can't seem to remember the password.

Any thoughts on what I could do to restore the password

Re: Web Agents Password

Mr. Sherman,
With the introduction of 7.20 Agents, hp went from using those built in accounts (Administrator, Operator and User) to using your Windows credentials. So if you are trying to access the web page of a server that was built with 7.20 PSP or higher, by default the only user account that can log in is a user who is a member of the local Administrators group on that target server. So if the Domain Admins group is made a member of the local Administrator Group, then anyone who is a member can log in using their:
Domain\Username followed by their password.
Let me know if you have any additional questions,
Ed
