Re: Firmware Update
Hi @hearty123 ,
Below is a summary comparing your current versions with the most recent versions available and whether you should consider updating.
1. HPE iLO 4Your version: 2.81
Latest available: 2.82 (released March 2023) [Link]
Recommendation:
✔ Optional upgrade — only a minor update from 2.81 → 2.82, but still recommended for improved stability/security.
Your version: 2.92
Latest available versions identified:
- 3.30 (Sep 2023) — recommended update [Link]
- 3.40 (Aug 2024) — latest known BIOS release with critical security updates [Link]
Recommendation:
✔ Strongly recommended to update.
Jumping from 2.92 to 3.30/3.40 gives major security fixes, including Intel IPU mitigations.
Your version: 2.86.2
Latest available for Gen9: 2.87 (July 2023) [Link]
Recommendation:
✔ Optional but recommended — small upgrade, improves provisioning reliability.
Your version: 0.70
Latest versions visible online: No newer Gen9-specific Smart Storage Battery firmware found.
Recommendation:
✔ Likely up‑to‑date.
Smart Storage Battery updates for Gen9 are rare and often bundled in SPP, not standalone.
(If you use a Smart Array controller, its firmware update via SPP may implicitly update battery microcontroller firmware.)
Your version: 20.19.51
Latest available for Gen9 adapters:
- Broadcom NX1 firmware package still references v20.19.51 for Gen9 (as the latest available) in ProLiant Gen9 packages. [support.hpe.com]
Recommendation:
✔ You are already on the latest Gen9-supported NIC firmware.
The versions newer than this (20.28.41) are Gen10‑only.
Summary of required updates:
-> Because Gen9 updates are increasingly locked behind support contracts, the recommended method is: Use SPP (Service Pack for ProLiant) 2021.10.1 This is noted as the latest available for Gen9.
- Update BIOS to the latest “critical” version available without a contract
- Update Smart Array controller + Battery
- Update NIC firmware (if applicable)
- Update Intelligent Provisioning (if allowed)
