3rd party Mib Information

After compiling and registering some 3rd party Mibs Like the Microsoft ones ( wins, Inetsrv and mssql etc etc) they do not give me any info like trap names or trap types etc etc, so I can't configure any severity's .

I did the mcompile and mxmib commands correctly and the Mib names have appeared in my HPSIM 4.1 management station just at a loss to explain the lack of granularity.

After much searching on the net I have found some very obscure references to this. The problem seems to be that the Microsoft MIBS don't have any trap defined. They can only be used for browsing. Which makes them useless. Suggest you look at the event to Trap converter from NComTech as per serval other discussions here. Also don't get ditracted by the MicroSoft EVNTWIN.EXE or command version. They look great but if there is no MIB from Microsoft (or anyone else I've found), then all you'll get in HP SIM (need to configure to show unregistered traps) is a bunch of Unregistered Traps !
