Add custom fields to HP SIM?

Add custom fields to HP SIM?

We would like to centralize our inventory and reporting and HP SIM does almost all of what we want. There are however, a few data fields that we need that are not included in HP SIM.

Is it possible to add custom fields to hosts or systems in HP SIM?

Between the standard SNMP fields 'Contact' and 'Location,' the Asset Tag in the BIOS and the agents' free-form 256-character 'Role' field, most people are able to get what they need done.

If you need something more, you would have to do it outside of HP SIM by creating a new database and then opening the HP SIM tables **read-only** to lookup other pertinent information.

Re: Add custom fields to HP SIM?

Thanks for your reply, David. I have one other question, if we were to sub-divide the 256 character "Role" field, say with some kind of delimiter character, would it be possible to run reports that would parse out the sub-fields in a CSV file? Or would that have to be handled after generating the report, say with an Excel macro or something similar.

I'd have to get to the system to check it out. I'm pretty sure we don't do any checking for commas. You'd have to discard the headings row, but other than that it should come in smoothly.
