Agent Upgrade- Verious versions
I am upgrading all Insight agents in our environment.
1. If the latest version is 6.4 if the Insight Agents, how safely can I skip from an older version?
2. Will the install of the new agent version require a reboot of the server?
3. I have searched for the aove issues and have found none.
Our hardware consists of the following: Proliant 2500&3000(majority),
1850,DL380,6400,8500
Operating Systems: NetWare 5.1, 2000 server, NT server 4.0
Insight Agent Versions:
Novell- 4.8(majority), 4.9, 5.1, 5.3, 5.5, 6.1
Windows- 4.01, 4.2, 4.21, 4.22, 4.5, 4.6, 4.7, 4.8(majority),4.9, 5.0, 5.2, 5.3, 5.5, 6.0, 6.3, 6.4.

Re: Agent Upgrade- Verious versions
I don't know about Netware.
The last softpaq for NT 4 is 6.30 and for some of the older Servers there's a limit to the System Management driver that can be installed (3.36.1381.1).
I found with some large jumps you needed a couple of goes to get everything installed due to dependencies.
You will need to reboot because of updates to the System Management drivers.
I strongly recommend upgrading the entire softpaq due to some dependecies of the agents.

Re: Agent Upgrade- Verious versions
I am breaking out NetWare to a different plan.
What is the limit for the System Management driver based on (3.36.1381.1)? Is this version dedicated to a particular version of the agent? Pardon my density, but what do mean mean by "a couple of goes"? Multiple installs of the same version? The softpaq includes the BIOS, etc.? I do recall hearing that there was no need to go higher than 5.5 on some of the older servers, but there was a new vulnerabilty posted for 5.5-5.9 http://securitytracker.com/alerts/2004/Mar/1009411.html
My fear is adversly affecting the servers, especially when applyingentire softpaqs and I have over 100 to do.
