We have a central SIM server for all our servers globally. We want to configure a System Group for each region (4 in total) and set the admins in those regions to only see the servers in their region (specified in the System Group). The system groups seem to have to be manually updated, unlike a system list that can use "Servername starts with", etc.
Does anyone know of a tool or way to constantly update system groups automatically?

Re: Auto Updating System Groups
Starting with the customize button in the lists box at the left, you can create a new list which has innumerable ways to describe the members, including "name starts with."

Solution
Tony, System Groups are manual in this version of HPSIM. The good news is we're working on ways to make it easier to update them and the next version of HPSIM will have some improvements (we're going to allow you to source a System Group from a List and allow you to repopulate it from a List.) This is still manual but easier than now.
We are a little concerned about automated updates though because it gets into automatic rights assignment - that is generally a security problem but might be something that some of our customers are interested in.
Are you comfortable (from a security perspective) with having systems automatically assigned (at discovery) to System Groups and thus automatically managed by people assigned to those groups?

Dude, we've been totally misled by our album covers!

Re: Auto Updating System Groups
Scott,
Thanks for the clarification!
Yes I would definately be intersted in this functionality.
I agree that automatic rights assignment is undesirable but if you want to assign a group read only rights to a list of servers they monitor this is a perfect way.
I look forward to the new release!
BTW. I know there's a DOS command that can be used in scripts to amend system lists, I presume there isn't one for System Groups?
Thanks for the help
